Great Barford in Bloom

November 30, 2017 in Uncategorized

On Sunday morning 26th November 2017, volunteers and our local Borough Councillors Stephen Moon and Sheryl Corp, gathered at the Village Hall to start the process to create ‘Great Barford in Bloom’! The project was instigated by the Parish Council with a plan to plant 1,600 King Alfred Daffodil bulbs throughout the main access points to the village in year one and a further 1,000 bulbs each year over the next 5-10 years.

The project was sponsored by Bedford Borough Council and Roxton Garden Centre. Funding was sourced through the Borough Council Ward Fund to purchase bulbs and trowels.

On arrival the volunteers were issued with hi-vis jackets, spades, trowels and a bag of bulbs, directing them to planting areas. The sun shone making it a fun morning for the families who got involved. Squeals of laughter from the children made it all worthwhile. Bulbs planted, the volunteers were invited back to the Village Hall for a ‘thankyou’ coffee/hot chocolate with marshmallows and cakes, which went down extremely well.

A big THANKYOU from the Parish Council to all who volunteered, now we wait patiently until Spring when our village should have a wonderful show of daffodils and the volunteers can say with pride ‘we planted those bulbs’!

Not forgetting a big THANKYOU to the group who planted many young trees (whips) around the Jubilee Play area.

We look forward to seeing you again next year for phase two! Bring your friends, it’s fun!

CARRIAGEWAY RESURFACING WORKS HIGH STREET, GREAT BARFORD.

November 2, 2017 in Uncategorized

Bedford Borough Council is due to carry out carriageway resurfacing works on the High Street. The area to be treated is from Bedford Road to New Road. In order to allow the work to be carried out quickly and safely it will be necessary to close the High Street to traffic.

The surfacing works will commence on 10th November 2017 and will be completed on 27th November 2017 with an expected duration of 12 days.

The road closure will be in place between 9:00am and 3:30pm. In order to access all areas to be resurfaced the Borough Council must insists that no vehicles are parked on the highway during the road closure period on the days mentioned above. Please note that should there be obstructive vehicles left on the highway, whilst every attempt will be made to contact the owner, they will be moved to ensure the work can be carried out efficiently. The Borough Council can recharge the cost of moving an obstructive vehicle to the owner.

The closure will affect the school and public transport services in Great Barford, therefore the works have been restricted to between 09:00 – 15:30 to reduce the impact on the schools and the 27 public transport service. During these hours the 27 service will be diverted along New Road > Roxton Road before continuing on with its normal route. It has been requested that a temporary stop be served by The Anchor in both directions so that people can board and alight the transport at either end of the closure. Grant Palmer will publicise this temporary change to service on their vehicles and locally

Further information will be delivered directly to residents and local businesses affected by the works.

Further information about any current or planned roadworks in Bedford Borough can be found on the website www.roadworks.org.
