The brook – Rights and responsibilities of living by a watercourse

April 14, 2017 in Uncategorized

It has been noted that garden waste is being dumped on the bank of the brook in some areas of the village.  If your land boundary is next to a watercourse it is assumed you own the land up to the centre of the watercourse, unless it is owned by someone else.  You should keep the banks clear of anything that could cause an obstruction and increase flood risk, either on your land or downstream if it is washed away.  Please dispose of green waste in your green wheelie bin and not on the bank of the brook where it may end up in the water and cause an issue when we have heavy rain.  The guide below ‘Living on the edge’ explains your rights and responsibilities of riverside ownership.
