Great Barford – Village Quiz Wednesday 20th November 2013

The Village Quiz will be held at the Village Hall on the 20th November 2013.  We are please to say that David and Diana Wignell will be setting the questions once again.  The quiz will commence at 7.30pm and teams should arrive by 7.15pm. Entry forms can be found here

Great Barford Remembrance Day Parade and Service

The annual Remembrance Day Parade and Service will be held on Sunday 10th November 2013.  All are welcome to attend.

The Parade will start at 14:45 from the High Street, opposite the Post Office and will proceed to the War Memorial for the Act of Remembrance and then to All Saints Church for the remainder of the Service.

Casual Vacancy in the Office of Councillor

Notice is hereby given that a vacancy exists in the office of Parish Councillor for the Parish of Great Barford. The vacancy will be filled by co-option at the meeting on 19th November 2013.  Those wishing to be nominated should register their interest with the Parish Clerk no later than 11th November 2013.

A person is qualified to be elected as a Councillor if they are a *British, Commonwealth, Irish or European citizen and over 18.  In addition, the person must meet at least one of the following:

  1. they are on the electoral register for the parish
  2. during past 12 months they have owned or tenanted land or premises in the parish
  3. during the past 12 months their principal or only place of work has been in the parish
  4. during the past 12 months they have resided in the parish or within 3 miles of it.

Bankrupts and those subject to recent sentences of imprisonment are disqualified from standing.

A person cannot be validly nominated unless his/her consent is given in writing to the Parish Clerk at 59 High Street, Great Barford, MK44 3JJ or to clerk@greatbarford.org.uk by 11th November 2013.  This should be accompanied by an A4 sheet detailing name, address, qualification for nomination* and one of 1-4 above, and the reasons for applying for the nomination.

Dog Control Order Consultation

Great Barford Parish Council wishes to seek the views of residents and stakeholders of the Parish on the introduction of dog control orders in Great Barford.  These Orders seek to ensure that dog owners keep their animals under control and take responsibility for them at all times.

The Orders that Great Barford Parish Council is proposing to introduce are as follows: 

Dog Exclusion Order: The effect of the Order is to make it an offence for a person in charge of a dog to permit the dog to enter or remain on any land to which this Order applies.

The proposed areas are:

  • Playing Field, Fishers Close
  • Jubilee Play Area

Dogs on Lead Order: The effect of the Order is to make it an offence for a person in charge of a dog to fail to ensure that a dog is kept on a lead on any land to which the Order applies.  The proposed areas are:

  • Churchyard and Graveyard
  • Village green, by the river, New Road
  • Open spaces in Chapel Field, Willoughby Close and Pyms Close

The consultation document will be delivered to each household in Great Barford.  Copies are also available from the Parish Clerk at clerk@greatbarford.org.uk or on 01234 870245.

The public consultation will run for a six week period from Monday 30th September to Friday 15th November.
